I want to highlight a couple of great initiatives here in our community: Katie’s Fighters Fundraiser and new non-profit, Project Sew Loved. Project Sew Loved is an organization dedicated to providing comforting handmade decorative items to people and animals in need within the Laredo community.
Katie’s Fighters Fundraiser For A Family In Need
Katie’s Fighters was recently featured in a Critters and Crayons post honoring young Katie, a local baby suffering from Anencephaly, a serious neural tube disorder. She’s 12 days old and defying the odds.
Precious Pitter Patter, a local crafting business, and Katie’s Fighters are looking for crafters and business owners to donate items to help another family affected by anencephaly. They are preparing to conduct an auction at Katie’s Fighters Facebook Page to help the family purchase a headstone for their baby. If you are willing to donate an item to help raise money for the family, please send an email to email@example.com.
Project Sew Loved is a community service organization seeking volunteers to make handmade decorative items to provide comfort, love and hope to children, elders and pets in our local community of Laredo, Texas. They plan to conduct monthly projects. August’s goal is to make pillowcases for orphans!
The vision behind Project Sew Loved is to donate handmade items to the local orphanage, Bethany House, Child Protective Services, Childrens’ Hospital Units and The Animal Shelter. The Project also aims to teach and encourage the use of homemaking skills such as sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and looming to children, teenagers and adults while stressing the importance of service to the less fortunate and ill in our community.
You can check out their new website at: http://www.projectsewloved.org/Monthly_Project.html . You can even “Like” Project Sew Loved on Facebook– We have! If you want drop off information for a craft item you’d like to donate or need more information, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call (956) 712-8496.
I’m really happy to let folks know about these great intiatives! We wish them both the best of luck!
