Not For The Pure Of Heart: The Things Kids Draw

Warning!

All Puritans and otherwise very clean-minded, good people.

Click out of this post right now.

What you’ll find here is a short description of something that happened last week that had me and my husband in hysterics.

I considered not running it: for dignity, appropriateness, and maturity reasons, yadda yadda.

It’s along the lines of the post I ran a few months back featuring some rather lusty lawn ornaments and other images my kids’ viewed very innocently   Or the post about  when my 3 year old accidentally wandered into a local S&M Shop.  Our kids don’t see things the way we see them.  They are too uncontaminated.

You’ve Been Warned.

The Inappropriateness Caveat Has Officially Closed.

And here it is, folks!

My pre-schooler woke me up one morning.

Groggily, I said, “Did you see you have paper on your easel now?”

“Yeah!” she said.  ”I already drew a picture!  I can’t wait to show you!  Come on!”

She dragged me out of bed.

She had propped a large sheet of paper in front of her picture.

Her creation warranted an “unveil”.

“It’s a surprise!!!” she said.

She ripped off the paper and this is what I saw….

It was a surprise, alright.

“Um.  What is it, Sweetie???!!!!

“IT’S A MUSHROOM!!!!!”

Of course it was!
WHAT DID YOU THINK IT WAS???

For anyone who is offended, don’t worry, I’ll be blogging about cake pops and play dough any minute now.

    • Hahahaha! Thanks! Hopefully, the crafting ladies don’t boot me from the group for fear of association. hahahaha!

      • Hiya…it’s thefuzziechronicles.blogspot.com…but I warn you…it’s sad today. So I was SO ready for the tickle your blog gave me.

PS…I ink you should frame that mushroom…imagine how much fun you could have with visitors!!!! :)

      • Tyuana- I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll be over to check it out tonight. I’m glad it gave you some relief. I’ve considered saving it….haha!

    • Tuyana- You were right. It was a sad post on your blog and I’m so sorry. I hope your heart heals and you find happiness again.

      • Thank you so much for reading it..and for your comment. Healing is a long process, so it helps to stay focused on the positive things…good friends, good families, and just feeling connected. Even when it’s connected hiLARious bloggers who are sharing Adventures in Parenting! :)

      • Tyuana- Well, I know what you mean. There is something about a group of women who have never met each other that can still seem close- maybe it’s the shared passion for writing and creating- and the willingness to follow another’s story- I hope that you’re healing is going well…..

    • Her art teacher is awesome. I think I need to stop teaching her about the difference between fungi and plants. She’s fascinated by mushrooms and loves to eat them. hahahaha!

  1. Love it!

Of course, my judgement my be slightly impaired. My bedroom wall is adorned by a picture of our family drawn by my 4-year-old son. It includes “Mummy’s lumps” and “Daddy’s penis”.

    • Haha! You’re more artsy than me. I was like, “Why is my daughter drawing a >>>>>????” I should have given her the benefit of the doubt, of course. Lesson Learned. :)

  2. The child has talent, that’s obvious. I side with the comments of Nami. Or. She has already realized the power of shock value in art. An takes great delight in watching you squirm.

    • I really like that perspective, Hudson- She did it to shock us. Well, I would say she was successful. haha!

  3. OMG…how funny!!!! and yes, kids tend to do that, hubby and I find ourselves cracking up in hysterics because our girls say innocently things we pick up as well not so much!

    • It’s funny- It really does look like a mushroom if you look at it with the right eyes! I hope your friend keeps that notebook, Joyce!

    • Brooke- I’m so glad! I seriously agonized over whether or not I should post it- but, I finally realized, that it’s just a mushroom, for goodness sake! Thanks for not disowning me. haha!

  4. Waaaaaaaaah!!! I have to keep my eye out for “these” drawn pictures then from my 2 kiddos.. So funny, I could actually clearly imagine you thinking this “Why is my daughter drawing a >>>>>????” Hahaha! Happy weekend!

    • Thanks, Mike- Even though the pic concerned me for a second, I was so impressed that she had a vision and could really bring it to life. We actually do study mushrooms when we cook a lot of our Asian dishes. Thanks for the comment, Mike!

  5. Haha! Good laugh :D
You should probably keep this for one day 25 years or so from now when your daughter will get a good laugh out of it herself!!

    • Laura- I would pay to see that picture. haha! Maybe we should run a post for other kids’ questionable pics. haha! Thanks for the note….

  6. HAHAHAHAHAAAH! So awesome. I should find the drawing my daughter did of a lady wearing a shirt with front chest pockets and (ahem) buttons…. (*snickers*) Who needs TV?

    • Desi- Yes, you should!!!!! So many parents have confessed to finding similar renditions around the house- If I could just get them all together…. :)

    • Oh, Mushroom Cake Pops! You’re brilliant, Alissa!!!!!!!!!! You’re right about not kicking anyone out. But, seriously, I was a little concerned about posting it. People that don’t read my blog or who haven’t read past posts might be liable to see that picture and report me. haha!

    • Gustavo- I thought so, too- I would be pleased with our daughter either way- I hope she loves art and science. Thanks for checking it out!
