About The Blog & Blogger

Welcome to Critters And Crayons!

The Critters and Crayons Blog is about humor in parenting, hopeful crafting and cooking, family activities and other intriguing and odd things that bring happiness and laughter.  It aims to find the funny in the every day- and, in particular, the most humorless of parenting situations.  It’s also a place for parents to find resources and first-person reviews of activities around Laredo, Texas for children and families.

Hey!  I’m Tricia.  After serving as a U.S. Army Officer for nearly ten years, I worked as a research analyst and technical writer for another four.  I chose to take a break from full-time work to raise my two small kids and now put my skills to use as a mom and freelance writer.  I’ll admit that I was surprised by how much I’d love this new life.

I enjoy finding ways we can have fun and bond as a family wherever we are.  I’ve tried to create some resources for Laredo parents.  But, above all, I hope that we can all find wonder and laughter in this parenting adventure and in the world around us.

I wrote a monthly column called Critters and Crayons for Laredo Family Time Magazine and researched and authored the Laredo Family Events Guide, a publication packaged and published by Laredo Family Time Magazine.

  1. You are invited to a Media Breakfast on Thursday July 7, 2011 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am to highlight Cow Appreciation Day 2011 at the Chick-fil-A restaurant at 5118 McPherson. Please contact Rolando Gallegos, RMD, at 956-285-2606 or mkting00594@gmail.com to confirm your attendance. See you there!

  2. You have an amazing website and I want to thank you for giving something special to all mothers around Laredo. I especially love your updated calendar of events, and the research you spent doing on the parks and local events; it makes living in Laredo exciting, especially for my girls. We usually say “there is nothing to do in Laredo!” but I realized that phrase is definitely false; I found myself doing so much more because of your website, and for that I thank you.

    • Wow! Erika, your comment may have made my year! I am so pleased that you find it helpful. We won’t be in Laredo forever, but my goal was to highlight what we could while we are here. I really wished there was a resource for families when we arrived her a year and a half ago. Your words are so kind and they give me fuel to keep working on highlighting the good things about family life here. Thanks you so much!

  3. Thanks, Trish, for your presence and reporting of the book festival at the library in Laredo! I hope when I come back I can get some time with the home-school association there! Tell your friends about me! I’m on Facebook!

  4. Oh I plan on it thanking her as am sure you are. There have been a few that I need to bow in front of an pay homage -so a big thanky post will be in the future. Random acts of kindness and generosity should not go unnoticed. I was taken back, for thirty seconds I actually thought there was another site out there with the same name. Regardless am looking forward to reading along with critters and crayons.

    • Thanks so much, Kristen! I must admit that’s my fifth bestowment and I’m just so honored every time! I’ll add your blog to the C&C Thankful Features Page for the award! Thanks so much!!!

    • Thanks so much, Mike- I think you were on my old blog- but I think it was in the wp.com reader. I lost all you guys when I migrated to the wp.org! :(
